The touching feature debut from Kenyan director Likarion Wainaina, co-Produced by Tom Tykwer (RUN LOLA RUN) tells the inspiring story of nine-year-old Jo (Stycie Waweru, in her acting debut) a young woman battling terminal illness who dreams of being a superhero. Aganist ball odds and battling the clock. Jo's rebellious teenage sister Mwix, her overprotective mother Kathryn and the entire village of Maweni come together to make Jo's last wish a reality. In the age of Black Panther, Wainaina succeeds in creating an equally compelling African superhero, as well as a deeply moving tribute to the comforting value of imagination in the face of adversity.
ONE FINE DAY FILMS is an alternative production company founded in 2008 by German film director Tom Tykwer and Marie Steinmann-Tykwer. The initial idea behind the ONE FINE DAY FILM Project is to give African filmmakers an opportunity to write and produce their own stories and, under the mentorship of experienced filmmakers, reach an international audience on the big cinematic screen. Until now ONE FINE DAY FILMS and their Nairobi-based partner GINGER INK successfully produced five feature films.
In cooperation with DW AKADEMIE, ONE FINE DAY FILMS trained over 1000 filmmakers from 21 African countries within their workshops in all departments of the moviemaking process.
